WOMEN’S DAY CELEBRATION IN NWOYA DISTRICT 2017

In Uganda, like in all UN member states, International Women’s Day is celebrated in recognition of the contribution and the different roles women play in the development process of the nation. Women from different ethnic, linguistic, cultural, economic and political backgrounds come together on 8th March every year to observe this day.

This year’s theme was: “Women’s empowerment in the Changing World of Work”. Nwoya district organised its celebration in Purongo Hills Primary school -Purongo Sub County.  It was the ‘1st well ever -Organised event in the district of Nwoya as one person commented…’. It was graced by The Resident District Commissioner (RDC) as the Chief Guest, area member of Parliament, District Councillors, Government/District officials, Women Groups such as HURIFO, Civil Society Organisations, Institutions, Development Partners, media houses and the surrounding communities.

At the function, various activities took place to reflect on economic, political, and social achievements of women. The participants including Human Rights community groups who matched from Purongo Sub-county office to Purongo Hills Primary School, led by a marching band and Special parade by Armed forces headed by Uganda Police force.
